Role of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in evaluation of gynecologic tumors

Background: Ovarian tumors are the second most common gynecological tumor and fifth commonest in women has highest mortality rate among gynecologic malignancies. It is estimated to comprise 6% of all cancer-related deaths. desirable preoperatively differentiate benign from malignant decide whether surgery required, which type appropriate avoiding unnecessary surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) been established as an excellent modality for evaluation disease. However, morphologic MRI some limitations lesion detection characterization. The innovation newer functional sequences such diffu­sion-weighted addressed many these issues enhanced diagnostic capabilities MRI. Aim: To investigate role DWI distinguishing between lesions light increasing recognition DWI. Patients & Methods: current study a prospective that was conducted at radiology department Benha Mansoura University Hospitals period October 2018 till January 2022. included 80 female patients with any age complaining problem like mass lesion, vaginal bleeding or pelvic pain including inflammatory neoplastic excluding congenital malformation lesions. Ethical consideration, informed consent obtained before enrollment approval research Ethics committee faculty Medicine 2015 no code number -code starts 2019-. Axial T1-WI, T2-WI, Sagittal Coronal Gradient-echo (GRE), Diffusion weighted MR images (DWI), ADC Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI- were used examination. Results: We found specificity accuracy results both 88.5 91.3 percent, respectively. revealed 94.7 percent sensitivity, 91.8 specificity, 92.5 identification cutoff value 1.0075 (10-3mm). Conclusion: addition conventional increased examination characterization provided combined interpretation data. can confirm exclude potential malignancy suspicious masses.
